2024年12月16日 · Massachusetts Central's rare NW5, #2100 sits at the intermodal facility in Palmer, Massachusetts on January 11, 1996. The NW5 was an elongated NW2 switcher with a short hood. Only 13 were built, and this one was the former Southern's #2100, a one unit order that spent most of its time assigned to New Orleans.

2020年12月12日 · Southern #2100 was one of only 13 NW5 units constructed by Electro Motive Division. The unusual model was basically a NW2 switcher body extended behind the cab to accommodate a steam generator, plus the addition of Blomberg road trucks.

The former Southern #2100 now works for the Massachusetts Central. The NW5, like the NW3 that preceded it, was basically an EMD NW2 switcher hood, prime mover (a V12 EMD 567 diesel engine) and main generator on a stretched frame and riding on road trucks (the standard EMD Blomberg B design).
