The EMD GP30 is a 2,250 hp (1,680 kW) four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division of La Grange, Illinois between July 1961 and November 1963. [2] A total of 948 units were built for railroads in the United States and Canada (2 only), including 40 cabless B units for the Union Pacific Railroad .

2025年2月20日 · The GP30 was EMD's first to feature the now-common pointed, low, short hood. This design became EMD's standard until the FRA mandated the wide "safety" cab on every new locomotive in the 1990s. Interestingly, the GP30 abandoned EMD's brief attempt at attributing horsepower rating to the model name.

The GP30 featured a unique cowl design and was the subject of a proper new model roll out at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan on October 18, 1961. EMD produced 948 GP30s during 1961-1963.

2025年3月16日 · NYC GP30 #2188 leads UP #721, NYC #2194 and NYC 2197 with freight train thru Empire City, NY. The UP shell is riding on the EMD Demo chassis. The NYC #2194 is an old Lionel shell that is riding on the EBRR #2161 chassis.

The roster below is comprehensive for Conrail's GP30 between April 1976 and the last unit's retirement in the early-1990's, and contains all predecessor units of the locomotive class that Conrail inherited.

It took 2 years to play catch-up and the result was the GP30. Conrail units came from two predecessors that bought or inherited the 2250hp units. Reading ordered 20 units (5501-5520) from EMD in 1962 which became Conrail units 2168-2187. A total of 62 units from NYC and PRR were inherited by Penn Central (2188-2249) and became Conrail units ...
