The R38 was a New York City Subway car model built by the St. Louis Car Company from 1966 to 1967 for the IND / BMT B Division. Two hundred were built in married pairs. In addition, the R38s were built to supply extra trains for service changes resulting from the 1967 opening of the Chrystie Street Connection.

2009年9月28日 · As they were the second oldest fleet, and had the R32MKs had gone through SMS more recently than the R38, the R38 was retired next. While the R38 fleet was being retired, the intention was to retire the R32MK-I next.

2010年2月18日 · The short answer is that the R32 has corrugations (ridges) that run entirely up and down its body. The R38's corrugations only go about halfway up. On the front of the car, the R38 features a large New York City Transit Authority logo opposite the forward facing cab window. The R32 does not feature this.

In 1966 the St. Louis Car Company built 200 cars of contract R-38 which would be assigned to Jamaica Yard on the IND for service on the Queens lines.
