
ALCO RS-11 - Wikipedia
The ALCO RS-11 is a class of diesel-electric locomotive rated at 1,800 hp (1.34 MW), that rode on two-axle trucks, having a B-B wheel arrangement. This model was built by both Alco (327 units) and Montreal Locomotive Works (99 units). Total production was 433 units. [1]

Three were built in late 1959 and three were built in early 1960. They were built as short hood forward, dynamic brakes equipped and were painted in the (by then) obsolete lightning strip scheme. Given that they were painted and delivered on the basis of a verbal commitment, I believe they were never "ordered" by the NYC.

2022年11月6日 · In the summer of 1957 the New York Central received nine DL701or RS11 locomotives from online builder Alco numbered 8000-8008. These road switchers were the first NYC road units to be delivered without the famed lightning stripes. The locomotives featured Alco's 251 prime mover, 1,800 HP and rode on B-B trucks.

2007年11月22日 · On Page 4 of Sweetland's "New York Central Lightning Stripes Volume 2," this is reiterated: "Six more RS-11's (8009-8014) were assembled in 1960 as the final lightning stripe units, but they were never accepted by the NYC." Pages 86 and 87 of Sweetland's book "The Delaware and Hudson in Color" has photos of the RS-11s in NYC Lightning Stripe paint.

Featuring a V-12, 1,800hp 251B diesel engine, the RS-11 was Alco’s answer to EMD’s very successful GP9. The turbocharged RS-11 accelerated faster, had a higher tractive effort rating and typically used less fuel than the competition. It was also quite versatile and could be found in heavy haul freight as well as passenger service.
