North Carolina Highway 49 (NC 49) is a 177.8-mile (286.1 km) primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It traverses much of the Piedmont region, connecting the cities of Charlotte, Asheboro, and Burlington.

NC 49 measures 177.40 miles across the Tar Heel State from the Charlotte area northeast to Virgilina, Virginia. North Carolina Route 49 enters North Carolina across Lake Wylie into southwestern Mecklenburg County.

Replace the NC 49 bridge over US 64 with a taller and longer bridge. The bridge was built in 1952, is too low for some of today’s taller vehicles, and is what the NCDOT has designated “functionally obsolete.”

2008年3月6日 · NC 49 is one of three NC state highways that involve three states (along with NC 16 and NC 28). NC 49 is a major through route from Charlotte to Asheboro and is multilaned along some of that stretch.

NC 49 will widen 1.2 miles of the highway to six lanes between John Kirk Drive and I-485. The project also includes a design called the Reduced Conflict Intersection (RCI), meant to reduce vehicle collisions.

The US 64 – NC 49 Corridor Study will use data from available traffic counts, travel time surveys, origin-destination postcard surveys, roadside origin-destination interview surveys, and video license plate matching surveys in developing a travel demand model for the study area.

The route is an important corridor for traffic as it forms a part of the shortest route between Charlotte, the largest city in the Carolinas, and the North Carolina state capital of Raleigh. NC 49 meets US 64 in Asheboro, which forms the majority of the Charlotte-Raleigh link.
