2021年9月23日 · This commemorative flag was created by Survivors to share their expression of remembrance with the broader public and to honour all residential school Survivors, families, and communities impacted by the residential school system in Canada.

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.

On August 29th, 2022, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Stephanie Scott, Executive Director of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation joined Survivors and other invited guests on Parliament Hill for the raising of the Survivors' Flag. The flag sends a powerful message to all Canadians. It is a call to remember and a call to action.

The Survivors Flag is a tribute to residential school Survivors and a permanent acknowledgement of the ongoing impacts that the residential school system has had on Indigenous families and communities across Canada.

The Survivors’ Flag is an expression of remembrance, meant to honour residential school Survivors and all the lives and communities impacted by the residential school system in Canada. Each element depicted on the flag was carefully selected by Survivors from across Canada, who were consulted in the flag’s creation.
