The Neutra VDL Studio and Residences is a National Historic Landmark and house museum committed to cultivating education, architecture, art, and culture that strengthen the facility’s mission as a community resource.

Neutra VDL Studio and Residences, the home of architect Richard Neutra, is located in Los Angeles, California. It is also known as the Neutra Research House, the Van der Leeuw House, the Richard and Dion Neutra VDL Research House II, or the Richard and Dion Neutra VDL Research Houses and Studio.

Lush plantings, coupled with a pool at the top of the stairs, transport the visitor to another environment far from the proximate urban sprawl of Silver Lake Boulevard. Originally called the Earl Street Reunion House, the home was a member of Richard Neutra’s Silver Lake Colony, but it is set apart from other homes in the group by its privacy.

2023年3月15日 · Here’s a closer look at ten of Neutra’s LA masterpieces. Neutra blended art, landscape, and practical comfort. Twelve Thirteen of Neutra’s buildings have been designated as Historic Cultural Monuments. He is most famous as an American Modernist architect and for his development of the International Style.

Starting with the 1928 Jardinette Apartments, the Neutra practice was responsible for fifteen apartment designs, including owner duplexes, affordable housing, apartments for government officials and multi-unit apartment structures. 2024年4月15日 · Austrian-American architect Richard Neutra designed some 300 homes during his storied career. One those gems, the “Ohara House,” went up for sale this week. The home was built in 1959 in East Central Los Angeles’ Silver Lake neighborhood. The 3 bed 2 bath home was first dubbed the Hitoshi and June Ohara House, for builder Hitoshi Ohara.

2009年2月24日 · Neutra worked from Silver Lake where his studio and office were located and he built about ten residential houses on Silver Lake Boulevard and on a small cul-de-sac that is now called Neutra Place. These simple and elegant houses were built in the 1950s and 1960s in Neutra's Japanese influenced "Pavilion Style."

Dion Neutra, the son of the 20th-century architect Richard Neutra and a practitioner in his own right who also waged a decades-long war to save his father’s iconic buildings from the ravages of time, remodeling, and demolition, died at his home on Neutra Place in Silver Lake, a neighborhood studded with Neutra architecture.
