Nic works on constructing phylogenetic trees to answer questions about cancer development, evolution, and the selective pressure treatment induces on the system. They also work on developing and implementing methods to optimize general phylogenetic experimental design.

Nic Fisk, assistant professor of cell and molecular biology, uses computational biology and bioinformatics to understand the nuances of why. They research the applied use of techniques such as phylogenetics—the study of how things are related to one another as evidenced by their genetics—to address a wide-range of medical questions.

The Fisk lab is located at the University of Rhode Island, where the PI (Assistant Professor Nic Fisk) is appointed. Fisk is a member of the Brown/Lifespan Center for Clinical Cancer Informatics and Data Science .

Since starting at URI, I’ve presented at QCAM–a queer in computational and applied mathematics conference, and additionally perform education research (in addition to my cancer research) on how intersections of identity interface with cross-disciplinary learning (like computational biology/bioinformatics, my field of study).
