YoRHa No.9 Type S, or just 9S, is one of the protagonists of NieR:Automata. He is the main character of Branches B and D, as well as one of the main antagonists and final boss of Branch C. 9S is a scanner-type android who served during the 14th Machine War.

YoRHa is an elite military force of advanced androids designed to combat the invading aliens and machine lifeforms. Operating out of their headquarters in the Bunker, YoRHa is led by Command who receives orders from the Council of Humanity. [4]

YoRHa Type S or Scanner Type Models are a classification of YoRHa android who specialize in espionage, infiltration, and data gathering. They were created and deployed for use during the 14th Machine War. Unlike other model types, Scanner Types are almost exclusively male.
