In Scientology, Operating Thetan (OT) is a state of complete spiritual freedom in which one is a "willing and knowing cause over life, thought, matter, energy, space and time". [1]: 279 The Church of Scientology offers eight "levels" of OT, each level costing thousands of US dollars. [2] .

The levels currently run from New OT I to New OT VIII. Note: most of the OT levels have been modified over time, sometimes extensively. These modifications are designated "New OT (level)". Operating Thetan (OT) is a spiritual state of being above Clear. By Operating is meant “able to act and handle things” and by Thetan is meant “the spiritual being that is the basic self.” An Operating Thetan, then, is one who can handle things without having to use a body or physical means.

OT VIII or OT 8 (Operating Thetan Level 8) is the highest current auditing level in Scientology. OT VIII is known as "Truth Revealed" and was first released to select high-ranking public Scientologists in 1988, [1] [2] two years after the death of Scientology's founder, L. Ron Hubbard.

These grades are the OT levels. The OT levels unleash the power and abilities concealed in the being. A being who is OT is free to set and attain each target he wishes. Ron Hubbard developed the OT levels from OT I to OT VIII, starting in the 1950’s. OT III, The Wall of Fire, was developed by Ron and released in 1967.
