obi means belt or sash, like the paper "belt" around Japanese LP covers is buried down in the thread, but is the answer to your question.

It may be an annoying question, but it bothers me from some time, since I found out people would spend fortunes on a CD having its obi strip! I mean, I understand it is a sign of original Japanese product, but why spending double price to get a piece of sheet (attention to the spelling! :)), when you don't even understand what's written on it?!

The OBI is indeed collectibale and worth something in the marketplace. But regarding the database and the submission - is the OBI part of the release or part of the sealing?

hatfulofelt Is it whether there should be a second sub (one with obi), meaning removing the series from your sub once again? That's exactly the question. Should this be 2 releases: 1 released in Japan with obi and 1 for the export without obi? Or should it stay as 1 release, with notes about the deliberately omitted obi on Euro exports?
