2020年1月13日 · EM noise is caused by seawater current EM induction and by rocking of the instrument. It is well known that mechanical motion of an induction coil in the Earth’s magnetic field will generate an additional magnetic field, and hence correlated noise, but this should not affect the electrical field unless v × B is comparable to the ambient field.

At the OCEEMlab Ocean and Earth ElectroMagnetic laboratory at the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics, pushing the envelope of geoscience knowledge is our goal! We strive to unveil Earth’s complex processes to advance a human-sustainable environment.
Modelling of electromagnetic signatures of global ocean …
2019年5月22日 · Ocean circulation’s magnetic signals contribute to the total magnetic field observed at the Earth’s surface or by low-orbit satellite missions. In this paper, we concentrate on accurate numerical modelling of the OIMF employing various approaches.
Abstract. We examine the propagation of low-frequency electromagnetic (EM) waves in the coastal ocean produced by controlled or motional impressed sources. Four important modes are the direct, up-over-down, down-over-up, and "beach" modes. The analyses of these modes are complicated by the varying bathymetry in the coastal region. We derive
Marine Electromagnetic Studies of Seafloor Resources and …
2011年6月30日 · This review provides an overview of these recent developments, covering industrial and academic use of marine EM for resource exploration and tectonic investigations, ranging from acquisition technology and modeling approaches to new physical and geological insights learned from recent data sets.
Ocean Electromagnetics - SpringerLink
Even though acoustic waves can travel long distances in the sea with little attenuation, ocean electromagnetics has important applications in the areas of geophysical surveys and searches of the seafloor and sub-bottom, communications across the sea–air boundary, and high data transfer rate at short ranges.
Perspectives on Marine Electromagnetic Methods
2020年6月30日 · Marine electromagnetic methods form important tools for the study of offshore geology, particularly at plate boundaries such as mid-ocean ridges, subduction zones, and the boundary between the lithosphere and asthenosphere, because electrical conductivity is strongly dependent on water content, partial melt, and temperature.
The potential for using ocean generated electromagnetic fields …
1999年1月1日 · We propose that model calculations of the modes of variability of the global ocean generated magnetic fields can be used in developing statistical tools that could help in separating the small ocean generated magnetic contribution.
Autonomous microstructure EM-APEX floats - ScienceDirect
2016年12月1日 · Results from eight microstructure EM-APEX floats deployed in the Sargasso Sea are presented here. The slow profiling speed of EM-APEX floats enables them to resolve the higher wavenumber regime of the microscale temperature …
