Depends on context. Much of the time "oy vey" is used in specifically anti-Semitic ways, like "The Jews have done this terrible thing, oy vey!" Then it is absolutely offensive. But if you're using it for its intended meaning, meh, I do not own the Yiddish language, you do as you do.

In accents of rural central Iranian Persian language and Luri language, "oi' (Persian: اوی‎‎) has the same usage as in English. In Russian, "oi" ("ой") is often used as an expression of various degrees of surprise. Most of the other stuff on the web are about the English usage of the expression or about the Yiddish "oy vey".

2021年8月5日 · The people implying “oy vey” is an anti-Semitic dog whistle are out of their minds. Or you just haven't experienced it. It can very much be a dog whistle when used by non-Jews in context. That's not a reason to not use it, but it is a reason to understand why many Jews are skeptical of non-Jews who use it, even un-ironically.

2011年8月22日 · I know that "Oi vey" is an expression of frustration or surprise applicable in many contexts. I will sometimes, however, hear someone exclaim "Oi vey va shmear" (I am guessing at the spelling) and I have no idea what the "va shmear" part is.
