Oilskin and Canvas Tarps.... Are They Even Worth It?
Feb 5, 2019 · Essentially I've been looking for a nice old fashioned tarp to use as a shelter for camping. My problem is canvas is too heavy and expensive as well as oilskin (at least at my income). Aug 6, 2015 · This way I'll have a poncho available for immediate use without having to undo my blanket roll. Since it is dimensionally smaller, its overall weight is lighter than a 10' x 10' oilskin tarp.
Thoughts on an oilskin and wool blanket system?
Aug 20, 2023 · So Im thinking of using an oilskin tarp and wool blanket as a system for sleeping and shelter. It seems very durable, very repairable. All natural. Are there any downsides to this system besides maybe weight? I want to be able to use a shelter/sleep system for decades to come so durability, usefulness, repair-ability, etc is very important.
Waxed canvas tarp or oilcloth tarp? | Bushcraft USA Forums
Dec 28, 2015 · While Oilskin uses a lighter weight base fabric the addition of the oil/ wax finish adds weight making Oilskin tarps very similar in weight to the canvas tarps. Which leads us to the two real reasons for choosing oilskin vs. canvas, compactness and color. The Oilskin tarps will fold up smaller than the canvas.
