2023年6月9日 · I have a hydraulic wood splitter that attaches to the tractor, and its great to use on some real twisted narly chunks, but most of the time I just use a 3 1/2 lb axe just like we always have. I prefer to work at wood in cooler weather in the fall, less bugs to battle with too.

2000年11月21日 · Here's how it works, go up to your pile of uncut wood, put a heavy splitting block under where the wedge will fall, put your block of firewood on top on that. Play with the 3pht till you get to the right working height, winch your wedge up, latch it so it doesn't fall.

But my nephew put together a series of still shots showing them splitting some of the bigger, tough blocks using the hydraulic splitter that they built. Its a lot easier than the axe I used to work with years ago.

I've been splitting wood by hand for a long time, and while poplar wouldn't be my first choice for firewood, if you need to split it, the winter time when it is wet seems to be the best. If you let it dry out, it gets "stringy", and it splits awful.

2015年1月26日 · I split all my straight grain wood with a Chopper 1 axe and can split it faster than log splitter. I through knots and chuncks that I can't split by hand in a pile and when I get enough I put it through the 35 ton log splitter.

2019年5月3日 · You drop a tree, cut it to firewood length where it falls, drive the tractor up to it, toss into trailer, unload trailer right onto splitter. Wood falls from splitter right next to where its stacked. In 2-3 years I then take it from the storage drying stacks into the house garage before its carted into the house and burned.

The really cheap (strenuous) thing to do would be to get one of those all metal monster malls and split the wood by hand when the weather gets really cold. When we lived up in Minnesota, we found the old saying the colder it gets, the better wood splits was true.

2020年10月26日 · I brought all my firewood in and stacked it in the wood shed in rounds. About every 3 days over the winter I split enough for 3 more days. It gave me some good exercise in the winter.

2024年12月28日 · I split probably 3 to 5 cords a year and then convert it to pallets for those who want the wood delivered locally, I use the tractor and take a pallet load on the front and the @BIGTOOLRACK stacked full on the rear. There are some really nice splitters which work very well for great prices.
