The original YZ250 of 1974 used an air-cooled 250cc two-stroke engine of 70 mm bore and a 64 mm stroke, which was improved semi-annually. The air-cooled motor was replaced in 1982 with a 249 cc liquid-cooled two-stroke reed-valved engine with a mechanical, rather than servo-driven, YPVS exhaust valve for a wider spread of power.

2022年2月1日 · Here's the List of Yamaha YZ250 Generations from the first gen until Today's production of YZ250. The second generations of Yamaha YZ250 Produced Between 1978-1981. The Yamaha YZ 250 3rd Generation produced Between 1982 to 1993.

Today it stands as the last 250cc two-stroke from Japan. That makes it the longest-running production dirt bike in the world–maybe even the longest running motorcycle model of any kind outside of Milwaukee and Russia. Perhaps more than anything, the YZ250 is known for the legendary riders who used it to win.

2010年10月7日 · It was an air-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke bike that had reed-valve induction and a five-speed gearbox. This year Yamaha got things right. Fed through a 34mm Mikuni carburetor, Yamaha created an engine that smoothed out the power through the low end to top end and everything in between.

In 1995, the YZ250 won the Dirt Bike “250 MX Shootout,” which was written by none other than Roger DeCoster. In it, Roger reported that “[…] the YZ250 is your best choice, because it’s the only bike that fits a wide variety of conditions in stock form, and it’s always easy to ride.”
