Sand wave - Wikipedia
A sand wave is a lower regime sedimentary structure that forms across from tidal currents. [1] Sand waves are formed through the action of the wind or water (through waves or tidal currents) [2] and are a product of unidirectional flow. Sand waves are the result of a mean flow velocity between 40 and 70 cm/s. Sand waves also form underwater. [3][4]
Simulating and understanding sand wave variation: A case …
2009年4月21日 · Results show that the model is able to describe the variation in the Golden Gate sand waves well when both the local oscillating tidal current and the residual current are taken into account. Current and water depth seem to be the most important factors influencing sand wave characteristics.
Sand waves: A model of origin and internal structure
1980年5月1日 · Sand waves are large flow-transverse bedforms coupled to oscillatory boundary-layer currents of tidal origin.
Seabed sand waves - Coastal Wiki
Seabed sand waves are more or less rectilinear sand ridges arising from the interaction of tidal flow with the seabed. They form a regular undulating pattern with wavelengths (=distance between successive crests) of one hundred to one thousand meters, but …

Modeling large scale shoreline sand waves under oblique wave …
2012年8月17日 · Simulations with variable wave incidence angles (alternating between 60° and 30°) show that a large proportion of high angle waves is required for spontaneous sand wave formation (at least 80%). Insight is provided into the physical mechanism behind high angle wave instability and the occurrence of a optimal length scale for sand wave growth.
Modeling the formation and migration of sand waves: The role …
2019年11月15日 · Sand waves can be formed and grow under a symmetry tide (such as the S2 used in above simulations). However, sand wave migrations may occur in case of the distortion and loss of tidal symmetry. Here we analyzed the relationship between sand wave migrations and tidal asymmetry. Two series of numerical experiments were conducted.
Sand Wave - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Sand Wave Field (NOBel Sands) (Figure 12.1, 2) An extensive sand wave field covering an area of around 440 km 2. The crests of the sand waves in the eastern and central part of NOBel Sands lie in water depths between 25 and 40 m, whereas those further to the west have crests in water depths of 40–60 m.
Sand waves and longshore sand waves | SpringerLink
2014年1月1日 · Sand waves are generated and maintained by strong tide- or storm-generated currents flowing over a sandy bed in depths up to 100 m, but generally between 25–30 m. They characteristically lie normal to the dominant current, are asymmetrical in section and capable of migrating in the direction of the current.
