Over twenty variants of the North American P-51 Mustang fighter were produced from 1940, when it first flew, to after World War II, some of which were employed also in the Korean War and in several other conflicts.

With its sleek laminar-flow wing, classic American M2 Brownings, high-visibility cockpit, and immensely powerful engine, the P-51 is most definitely a force to be reckoned with. It is endowed with very good high-altitude traits, endurance, and speed.

The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang is an American long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber used during World War II and the Korean War, among other conflicts. The Mustang was designed in 1940 by a team headed by James H. Kindelberger of North American Aviation (NAA) in response to a requirement of the British Purchasing Commission.

Considered by many as the definitive P-51, the P-51D was the most produced Mustang with 8,102 units built. It is also the most survived of the models with many still flying today. The P-51D/K specs are on the P-51K page.

The P-51D-5 Mustang is a rank III American fighter with a battle rating of 4.0 (AB/RB) and 5.0 (SB). It has been in the game since the start of the Open Beta Test prior to Update 1.27. The P-51D is, undoubtedly, the shining star of the USAF branch.
