Basically, the P0380 code means that the PCM has detected a fault in the glow plug/heater circuit "A". Note: This DTC is very similar to P0382 which that code refers to circuit "B". If you have multiple DTC codes, fix them in the order they appear.

These heat the cooling system rapidly when the vehicle is cold to quicken the warm up process. The only issue this will give you is an increased Engine Warm Up Time. Neither of these faults will bring on the Engine Management Light as they aren't vitally important. I have no idea based on those codes why someone would say you need a new DPF!
