The Curtiss XP-46 was a 1940s American prototype fighter aircraft. It was a development of the Curtiss-Wright Corporation in an effort to introduce the best features found in European fighter aircraft in 1939 into a fighter aircraft which could succeed the Curtiss P-40, then in production.

The XP-46 of 1939 was a late attempt by Curtiss to capitalize on lessons from early fighting in Europe and to develop a fighter powered by an inline engine which could succeed the P-40 Warhawk on production lines.

It was designed as a high-altitude interceptor with advanced features, such as a pressurized cockpit and retractable landing gear. The XP-46 was powered by an Allison V-1710-19 liquid-cooled V12 engine, which could generate up to 1,150 hp. The aircraft had a top speed of around 400 mph (644 km/h) and a range of 900 miles (1,448 km).
