The Piper PA-31T Cheyenne is a twin-engine turboprop development of the earlier PA-31P Pressurized Navajo. Originally, the aircraft was an upgraded version of the Pressurized Navajo equipped with two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 A-28 turboprop engines.

In the 1970s, Piper Aircraft introduced the Piper PA 31T-620, a turboprop-powered aircraft designed after the Piper Navajo. The Piper Cheyenne--one of the most popular Cheyenne turboprops produced--was introduced in 1974. The Piper Cheyenne II is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PT6A-28 engines with 620 shp.
