The EP05 (also manufactured as ZNTKiM Gdańsk 44E) is a Polish modification of Czech electric locomotive EU05 used by Polish railway operator (PKP). The locomotive was produced in the years 1957–1960 in three types: 20E1, the prototype, 30E1 and 30E2.

Die Lokomotiven der Baureihe EU05 der Polnischen Staatsbahnen (PKP) waren Elektrolokomotiven. Die 27 verbliebenen Lokomotiven der Baureihe wurden zur Baureihe EP05 umgebaut. 1961 beschafften die PKP von Škoda in Plzeň (Tschechoslowakei) 30 vierachsige Elektrolokomotiven.

The electric locomotive of the EU05 / series was developed in Škoda Plzeň as a structural continuation of the el. locomotive designation E499.1 In the years 1961-63, 30 units were produced for the Polish Railways PKP (designated EU05) and 87 units for the USSR under the designation Čs3.

In 1969, PKP started testing several changes to enable EU05 locomotives to achieve speeds up to 160 km/h. First trials were made with the EU05-29 locomotive, and soon it became clear that it was possible to safely achieve speeds up to 170 km/h after changing the transmission rate.

Elektrická lokomotiva řady EP05 byla vyvinuta v Škoda Plzeň. V letech 1959-61 bylo vyrobeno 61ks pro ČSD a současně dalších 30ks pro polské dráhy PKP ( označeno EU05) a 87ks pro SSSR pod označením Čs3. Lokomotivy byly díky rychlosti 120kmh určeny převážně pro osobní a rychlíkovou dopravu.
