The Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) class I1s steam locomotives were the largest class of 2-10-0 "Decapods" in the United States. From 1916 to 1923, 598 locomotives were produced (123 at Altoona Works and 475 at Baldwin Locomotive Works). They were the dominant freight locomotive on the system until World War II and remained in service until 1957.

The #4483 is the lone survivor of the 598 class I1 locomotives built from 1916-1923. The class I1’s were the biggest of the (2-10-0) Decapod types in the USA.

2025年3月23日 · Just a minor correction to today's Rypn "Briefs" post on PRR I-1sa No. 4483. The Pennsylvania RR gave the engine to Westinghouse Air Brake in Wilmerding, Pa., in 1963. A few interesting historical "tidbits" about PRR No. 4483 from my research: she was converted from I-1s to I-1sa in February 1931.

2019年9月19日 · Shortly before I moved away from Pittsburgh in 1983, I was present when the locomotive was towed away from its display site on the first leg of its journey to western New York. Thus, I actually saw PRR 4483 move, rods (some of them) connected, wheels rotating; I don't think there are many people still around who can say that!!!!

Left Thompson Yard at 9:30am. from Perry to Conway Yard via the Monongahela Branch and the Scully Branch across the Ohio River on the Ohio Connecting Bridge via the mainline to Conway Yard.
