
Pennsylvania Railroad 4800 - Wikipedia
Pennsylvania Railroad 4800, nicknamed "Old Rivets", is a GG1 class electric locomotive located at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, outside of Strasburg, Pennsylvania in the United States. It is the prototype GG1 and was originally numbered 4899.

On January 28, 1935, No. 4800 pulled the first electrically powered train from Washington to Philadelphia. On the return trip No. 4800, at Landover, Maryland, set a speed record of 102 mph for that section of track. No. 4800 remained in service on the PRR and later Penn Central and Conrail, until October 1979, when the main transformer failed.
The Pennsylvania Railroad GG1 - Steam Locomotive
The railroad built 139 units (#4800 through #4938) between the years 1934 and 1943. Many of them were built at the Juniata Locomotive Shop in Altoona, PA. This streamlined locomotive, designed for bidirectional operation was mainly used for passenger trains, but a few were regeared for freight service.

6 天之前 · The only PROPER paint scheme for this historic locomotive would be her original PRR dress. This is the "class" locomotive and deserves a classy paint scheme. In fact, the only paint scheme that looks "right" on a GG1 is PRR Brunswick Green (black, choose on striping - but I prefer the "cat whiskers.") or Tuscan with "cat whiskers."
