
Pennsylvania Railroad 4935 - Wikipedia
Pennsylvania Railroad 4935 is a preserved GG1 class electric locomotive. It is one of sixteen remaining Pennsylvania Railroad class GG1 locomotives, and one of two (along with Pennsylvania Railroad 4800 ) at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania .

2020年11月15日 · There are 15 GG1s in US museums but none are thought to be operational, even the 4935 shown here, which now resides at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg. The PCBs once used to cool the transformers have been removed.
The Pennsylvania Railroad GG1 - Steam Locomotive
The one exception may be 4935 in Strasburg, PA which may be capable of actually running if a transformer and a proper catenary were available. The GG1 was a 25 cycle (HZ) machine for which the PRR maintained their own substation to provide the 25 cycle current.

Built by the PRR starting in 1934 until 1943, a total of 139 of these elite locomotives were built for and by the Pennsylvania Railroad. They handled all main line passenger service between New York and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in the electrified zones.

Shown here is PRR engine #4935, a GG-1 built in Juniata during March of 1943. It has just departed Wilmington on its way South to Baltimore and Washington with an 11-car passenger train.

2015年8月7日 · Built in 1943 and nicknamed "Blackjack" the Pennsylvania Railroad used 4935 for high speed passenger trains over the Northeast Corridor. In 1968 PRR merged with NYC to form the Penn Central Transportation Company where 4935 continued in passenger service. In 1971 the locomotive became part of the roster of Amtrak.

Pennsylvania’s “clocker”, 1936-1950s - TrainWeb
The most common baggage PRR car during the 30s through the 50s was the 60’ Pennsylvania B60b with arched roof. They were used as needed on most passenger trains and traveled on many off-line express trains around the county.

May 15, 1977: The Rededication and first run of GG1 4935
There were three main reasons why GG1 4935 was chosen for this honor back in 1977: 1-Original unmodified side traction motor air intakes. 2-Good mechanical condition and one of the then-youngest GG1s in service (built 1943 - 34 years old back in 1977) 3-4935 carried its original PRR-given number throughout its years of service (retired in 1980)
