The P70 was the first of the Pennsy's 80-foot all-steel coaches. Over 1,000 of the cars were built by Altoona and several other car builders between 1907 and 1929. The early cars featured 88 seats, but as of 1926 they were built with 80 seats.

Electrification of the PRR from New York to Philadelphia was completed in 1935, and trains were led by the famous GG1 electric locomotives. These routine, unglamorous locals did not get the most modern equipment. The common P70 coaches, built from 1914 to the 1920s, were standard equipment for the clockers.

2022年4月23日 · The PRR P70 coach model (of this type!) was introduced to the Nason line in 1936 (they had a sand cast aluminum version out in 1934). For me the size and style of the car are visually attractive, and I like to think Carl Appel felt the same.

2025年2月28日 · With the recent change of ownership of the SRNJ in south Jersey it is no longer a friendly place to have old, possible historic equipment. Three privately owned P70's which have been under restoration for years at Winslow Jct. now look to be among the first that will be scrapped in place. Others such as a LV parlor car may follow. Wow.

2001年10月15日 · The (Official PRR document) Passenger Car Trucks Classification dated 7/9/1949, shows the beginnings of the 2E-P5 as used on the PLB85R, POC85aR, and D85dR...the P70fbR rebuild program would soon follow and the improved riding qualities over the 2D-P5 must have been significant for the PRR to make the investment.
