The Pennsylvania Railroad's class A5s was the most powerful class of 0-4-0 steam locomotives. The Pennsylvania Railroad built 47 in its Juniata Shops between 1916–1924. They were all retired by 1957. One is preserved at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

2025年3月13日 · PRR 643 - assigned to the following - (G), H1, B4a, and finally A5s. Hope that helps!! THAT number 643 was built by PRR's Altoona Shops in 1901 and (according to J. David Conrad's published info) was later sold to the Central Iron & Steel Company in Harrisburg, PA.

The PRR's original locomotive classification system was in force between 1867 and 1895. Under this system, each significant locomotive type was assigned a different class letter even if the wheel arrangements were the same. To illustrate this, classes A, B and C were all 4-4-0 type locomotives but with differing specifications.

Like most PRR designs, these burned fuel in Belpaire fireboxes that were scarcely visible in the large cabs. Virtually all were converted to A-3a saddle tank engines, which saw the removal of the double-bogie slopeback tender.

The class A5 were a class of 0-4-0 switcher steam locomotives built by Altoona Works for the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1916 to 1924. The A5's were a development of Pennsy's A class, which started in 1885 with the A1 and A2, formerly the Q class. Only one member of the class No. 94, has survived into preservation.
