The PS5 uses an SSD, and the RAM chip right next to it is not part of the total system RAM. It’s a DRAM cache, and there’s literally no better for it to be than a DRAM cache, I don’t know what to tell you buddy.

Nov 21, 2018 · Thank you for your informative post. My money is on 16GB of RAM. My wish (which will never happen) is to allow PS5 owners to upgrade the RAM and storage. Storage is a given, but the RAM is always baked onto the motherboard.

Nov 3, 2024 · What this could mean is that the PS5 has an extra 2GB of VRAM for the games because now, 2GB of DDR is used for the OS. Instead of 12.5GB available for games, it’ll have 14.5GB. I vaguely recall such a figure during the leaks and we were all wondering where it was coming from since the Pro and regular PS5 both have 16GB of GDDR6.

Mar 2, 2021 · PS4 had 5gb for games and Pro 5.5gb. Although it is not mentioned on official specs Pro also had 1gb DDR apart from 8gb GDDR5. The one big advantage though with the SSD according to Sony is that PS5 RAM will need to store data for next 1sec of gameplay which was 30secs last gen.

Sep 23, 2019 · The only thing we can be sure of the RAM increase wont be 16x the amount the previous console, which means the PS5 will be the first playstation console to not have this. My guess is 16-24GB. Sony hadnt specified whether its GDDR6, or unified memory for that matter, so we will have to wait and see

Jun 22, 2023 · This isn't really analogous to current consoles because, unlike PCS, consoles share the RAM as a pool between the GPU and the rest of the system. So, it is difficult to say how much is being used for VRAM and system RAM at all times, BUT for PS5 there is 16GB shared RAM with most estimates being that it uses 2-4 GBs for system RAM and 12 GB VRAM.
