Today Kuy People are found mostly in northeastern Thailand, but also in Laos and in significant numbers in Cambodia. They live primarily in the north-central part of the country, in Preah Vihear and Kampong Thom provinces.

Known as the "iron masters" of Ancient Cambodia, specializing in iron mining and processing, especially in the Kompong Thom/Preah Vihear area. Kuy (often Kuay among contemporary linguists) is a Katuic language of the Mon-Khmer language family. Three major dialects of the Kuy language have been identified: ntra, ntua and mla.

Kuy people are found in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. They are also known as Kui and Kamen-boran (which means ancient Khmer). In Cambodia they live primarily in the northcentral part of the country in Preah Vihear and Kampong Thom provinces. Their villages are mostly in remote areas interspersed with Khmer villages.

Prey Lang is the largest lowland evergreen forest complex in Cambodia, and probably in the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot. It covers approximately 500,000 hectares west of the Mekong River in the Central Plains of Cambodia and stretches over four provinces: Kratie, Kampong Thom, Stung Treng and Preah Vihear.

Prey Lang is the last major lowland rain forest on the Southeast Asian mainland. The forest cover approximately 5000 square kilometers and is located west of the Mekong River in the northern part of Cambodia. It is home to 250,000 inhabitants, many from the indigenous Kuy people of Cambodia, plus numerous threatened animal and plant species.
