Eight species of pangolins are found on two continents. They range from Vulnerable to Critically Endangered. Four species live in Africa: Black-bellied pangolin (Phataginus tetradactyla), White-bellied pangolin (Phataginus tricuspis), Giant Ground pangolin (Smutsia gigantea) and Temminck's Ground pangolin (Smutsia temminckii).

They inhabit woodlands and savannas in Southern, Central and East Africa, and Asia. The majority of the population have never heard of the pangolin, but they are the world’s most trafficked mammal, due to the high demand of their scales, and meat.

2025年2月6日 · Pangolins, also called scaly anteaters, are insectivorous mammals characterized by sharp, overlapping keratinized scales on their bodies. Although they look like anteaters (order Pilosa) and armadillos (order Cingulata), they belong to a separate group, Pholidota.

There are eight pangolin species worldwide. Four of the species can be found in 17 range states across Asia, and four in 31 range states across Africa. Pangolins occupy a diverse array of habitats; some are arboreal or semiarboreal and climb with the aid of prehensile tails, while others are ground-dwelling.
