Pelaw (/ ˈpiːlɔː /) is a residential area in Gateshead, located around 3.5 miles (5.6 km) from Newcastle upon Tyne, 11 miles (18 km) from Sunderland and 17 miles (27 km) from Durham. The United Kingdom 2011 census data for the Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council ward of Heworth and Pelaw recorded a total population of 9,100. [1]

Pelaw is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, serving the suburbs of Bill Quay, Pelaw and Wardley, Gateshead in Tyne and Wear, England. It joined the network on 15 September 1985. The station opened by the Brandling Junction Railway on 30 December 1839.

Pelaw came into being when the Cooperative Wholesale Society (C.W.S) established factories here in the late 1890s. Built on former agricultural land located between Heworth village and Bill Quay, the works grew to become one of the CWS' major industrial complexes in Britain.
