It delivers great image quality and has lots of built-in features, but nothing about it really says "wow" to push it ahead of the competition apart from the low $499 pricetag .

The MX-1 features a 1/1.7 inch (measured diagonally) 12-megapixel sensor, which is about 50% larger than the 1/2.3 inch sensors found in most traditional point-and-shoot cameras. Thanks it its larger sensor, the MX-1 can deliver images with less noise and more detail.

The MX-1 takes excellent pictures. The fact that the lens is sharp wide-open is one of the MX-1's key advantages. Of course, enthusiast compacts with larger sensors will exhibit less noise and better colors, but considering that it only has a 1/1.7" sensor, the MX-1 performs extremely well, especially in terms of sharpness.

This handy little camera is packed with features for the advanced photographer, offers better image quality than your everyday compact camera, and yet it can still be used by beginners thanks to its fully-automated "green mode".

In general, the MX-1's autofocus performance for stills is excellent. During street and landscape shooting, we found that the AF system was in no way a limiting factor. The AF motor is fast, and focus is locked in fractions of a second in good light at telephoto focus settings (i.e. if the subject is more than 5 meters away).
