
Antonov An-2 - Wikipedia
The Antonov An-2 was designed to meet a 1940s Soviet Ministry of Forestry requirement to replace the smaller Polikarpov Po-2, which was used in large numbers in both agricultural and utility roles. Antonov designed a large single bay biplane of all-metal construction, with an enclosed cockpit and a cabin with seats for twelve passengers.

Most Polish production used the AV-2 four-bladed wooden variable-pitch propeller, with straight, shorter, broader blades and a diameter of 3.35 meters (10 feet 12 inches). The main landing gear featured pneumatic shock absorbers; agricultural versions had long-stroke shock absorbers to soak up the occasional hit against the ground.

Since 1958, the АN-2 (Y-5) has been serially manufacturing in China. About 1,100 airplanes have been built in the PRC so far. From 1959 to 2002 the АN-2 and its derivatives were assembled at the WSK PZL-Mielec plant in Poland. A total of 11,915 airplanes have been manufactured.
