3 天之前 · No. 1361 is undergoing a $2.6 million restoration to return it to running condition [see “PRR K4s engine No. 1361 to be restored …,” Trains News Wire, June 25, 2021]. One of the obstacles is that the original mechanical specifications — drawn up by PRR in 1914 — do not meet present-day federal pressure-vessel safety standards.

And the scored bearing on later-day excursion 1361 happened during its return to Altoona from YorkRail 150 on Aug. 26-28, 1988. I was there.

2025年3月15日 · The Altoona Railroaders Museum hasn’t updated their information regarding #1361 since 2013. I emailed them suggesting an update including the positive news regarding Mr. Moorman & Mr. Levin taking over the project.

1 天前 · The museum has been clear in its press releases that 1361 will remain as she appeared in commuter service at the end of steam on the NY&LB, which makes sense if the plan is to create a historically correct, all-PRR trainset.

There were certainly other Altoona-built K-4s engines at East Altoona, some of which had arrived much more recently than 1361, but digging them out of the storage lines ...
