The ak is simpler and more reliable especially in harsh conditions. 7.62x39 is very reliable out of an ak. The round is conical and there's consistent extraction even if the chamber is getting gunked up after a lot of use.

Go grab a random pile of 5.56 AK mags and try em out in 5.55 AKs from various countries. Let me know how it goes for you. You will run into fitment issues. That’s a fact not fudd lore.
