The R142A is the second order of new technology cars (NTTs) for the A Division of the New York City Subway. [8] These cars were built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Kobe, Hyōgo, Japan and Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S. with final assembly performed at Yonkers, New York.

This includes the current R142, R142A, R143, R160, R179, R188 and R211 models, along with the planned R262 and R268 models. Two prototypes, the R110A and R110B, were used to test the features that would be found on all NTT trains today.

The R143 is a class of New Technology Train subway cars built by Kawasaki Rail Car Company for the New York City Subway's B Division. Delivered between 2001 and 2003, the cars displaced R40s and R42s that operated on the L service in conjunction with the BMT Canarsie Line 's signal system being automated .

In 1997, an order was placed for 1,080 new cars for the IRT ("A") division, to be known as contracts R-142 and R-142A. The contracts were let to Bombardier, to build the R-142 contract of 680 cars, and to Kawasaki Heavy Industries, to build the R-142A contract of 400 cars.

The R142 and R142A cars featured LED and LCD destination signs, electronic strip maps, interior LED displays to show the next stop and other information, automated announcements, enhanced fluorescent lighting for the train interiors, and screens in each operator cab allowing the train crew to troubleshoot issues more easily.

Is the fact that they have no vandal shield the ONLY reason you dislike the older trains? Every single time this issue comes up, that seems to be the only determining factor that you don't like them. And besides, there have been R142As that have been vandalized even WITH the silly vandal-shield (the "HA" tags come to mind).

2009年4月12日 · R143: Wabco RT-96 R160A,B: Wabco RT-5 so technically speaking, it is theoretically possible to operate R142's with R160's, and R143's with R142A's. but there are probably other issues besides differences in dimentions that make this pointless.
