These tubes cost more when new because of the higher production standards.

2018年1月28日 · I have one RCA 5963 tube which I haven't tried yet. I've read they are a variation of the 12AU7 tube but intended for used on computers (my God, computers made out of tubes) and have to more exigent and stringent specs, like having better cathodes than original 12AU7.

2017年3月4日 · The 1950’s RCA 5963 sounds more dynamic than the standard 12AU7 Blackplate, IMO. It’s also a low-noise tube. The RCA 5814A is also a great Blackplate. My favorite is the 5814A JAN RCA triple Mica, a military grade tube.

2009年10月10日 · The 5963 has exactly the same basic characteristics as a 12AU7. Same plate voltage/current requirements, same heater voltage/current. The odd man out is the 5814, essentially... same plate characteristics, but a little higher heater current (6.3v/350ma as opposed to 6.3v/300ma for the 12AU7).

This 1970s military spec RCA 5963 is an industrial 12AU7 type tube. It has long gray plates and a halo getter. The green or orange print on the glass has the RCA logo and reads "JAN 5693."
