Given the RHIC kinematics, gluon saturation is not expected to play a significant role, so the observed large nuclear suppression suggests additional effects, such as nuclear shadowing. Indeed, the Leading Twist Approximation nuclear shadowing model provides a better fit to the data, particularly for coherent J/ψ production.
