Jun 7, 2022 · rGUI is an "Old School" UI with RetroArch that's more commonly used on low-spec devices (like Raspberry Pi & Steam Link), which can be changed in the settings... assuming your version of the RetroArch has alternative UI's. The current UI is Ozone (formerly XMB) on modern, mid-range devices (like Windows PC's).

Apr 24, 2017 · I also recommend using the RGUI menu driver instead of the default XMB because RGUI is designed to scale down to very low resolutions gracefully. EDIT: I also wanted to add that this is very easy to do with Raspberry Pis with a cheap HDMI-to-VGA adapter (and possibly Gert's VGA; dunno, haven't tested it) by putting this in your config.txt:

Jun 15, 2020 · The xmb theme looks like the PS3 UI. Rgui is a bare bones theme, but the benefit is it's much faster performance wise, but only in the menu, e.g. launching a game will launch immediately, while in xmb or ozone it takes like 2 or 3 secs till the Game pops up. If you're just using RA to play your roms from your SNES mini UI, rgui is the way to go.
