Robert E. Thacker (February 21, 1918 – November 25, 2020) was an American test pilot, aeromodeling enthusiast and designer, [1] one of the few pilots in history to do tours of duty in two different theaters of operation (Europe and the Pacific) in World War II and the holder of a number of aviation records.

Robert Thacker grew up in El Centro, California, and was determined to find something better. At 19, he requested pilot training from both Army and Navy. The Army Air Corps got him first.

Robert Thacker is a scholar of Canadian literature and noted authority on the works of author Alice Munro. He first discovered Munro's writings in 1973, when he read her story ‘Material.’ It convinced him to pursue an academic career focusing on Canadian literature.
