2022年6月19日 · Many American GI’s who served in Vietnam had contact of one kind or another with troops from South Korea, commonly referred to as the “ROKs”. The Republic of Korea, a staunch ally of the U.S., sent some 335,000 troops to fight in South Vietnam from 1965 to 1973.

Why Were there South Koreans in the Vietnam War? In 1964, as the communist effort in Vietnam grew more intense, the South Vietnamese government made a formal request to the Republic of Korea for military assistance. Actually, the ROK government had offered to send help as early as 1954 but was turned down.

The ROKs have indicated an intention to begin withdrawal of one division equivalent after the SVN presidential elections.

2019年9月5日 · At its height, there were 48,000 ROK personnel. 320,000 ROK soldiers eventually saw combat in Vietnam with a total of around 16,000 casualties. Only around 4,000 ROK soldiers died in the entire war. Discovered Vietcong documents warned NVA troops to never engage the South Koreans until full victory was certain.

2022年9月15日 · The Republic of Korea’s helicopter training ship ROKS Hansando and fast combat support ship ROKS Daecheong anchored at Ho Chi Minh City’s port on September 14, beginning their four-day friendly visit to the city.
