He had a long history of marital discord and spousal abuse allegations. On March 1, 1992, his wife Lynn sought refuge in a shelter for battered women.

On March 1, 1992, Krystal was found shot to death in her home. Authorities quickly identified Bax, an obsessive and possessive man with a violent history, as the prime suspect.

During the evening of March 1st, 1992, Krystal leaves the shelter after visiting with Lynn and drives back to Carcross, about 45 minutes away. She opens the door to her cabin and Ron is there waiting for her with a high-powered rifle. He shoots her in the chest and kills her.
