Originally founded in 1986 by Laura Russo, the gallery has operated for over 35 years in the same space at 805 NW 21st Avenue in Portland, Oregon. Led now by Martha Lee, the gallery maintains its mission to represent regional artists and connect them with a local and global community through regular exhibitions and artists’ talks.

As of April, 2022, the Russo Lee Gallery is featuring artist Gabe Fernandez whose hyper-realistic paintings feature vacant suburban landmarks – eerie or peaceful, depending how you interpret it!

A key figure in bringing modernist painting to the Pacific Northwest, Michele Russo was known for bold use of and enlivend brush work and for his expressionist style. Artistic influences were German Expressionism and the Mexican muralists including José Orozco.
