I'd intended on using a wire cup/ flap disc to remove or at least smooth out the crappy looking white intumescent paint then priming again, then more intumescent paint then coloured topcoat. There are no fitted cavity trays, but there is a damp membrane a little further up the cavity that directs water from the internal brickwork skin to the external brickwork.
