The previous name of this district was Naushehra; it was renamed Rahim Yar Khan in 1883 by the Nawab of Bahawalpur. It is located between 27° 40Ꞌ to 29° 16Ꞌ north latitudes, and 60° 45Ꞌ to 70° 01Ꞌ east longitudes.
