SBT-12 supports NSW maritime and coastal Special Operations missions in the Pacific and Middle East. The command deploys detachments aboard amphibious ships, to Naval Special Warfare Unit ONE (NSWU-1) in Guam, Naval Special Warfare Unit THREE (NSWU-3) in Bahrain.

CORONADO, Calif. (NNS) -- Naval Special Warfare Boat Team (SBT) 12 was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation, and a SEAL (SEa, Air, Land) was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in a ceremony aboard Naval Amphibious Base Coronado Feb. 14.

Special Boat Team 12 is a component of Naval Special Warfare Group 4 and is based out of Coronado Amphibious Base, San Diego, California. It operates fleets of NSW RHIBs and MK V Special Operations Craft and deploys special boat detachments to the Pacific & Middle East.

NSW has three Special Boat Teams: SBT-12 in Coronado, CA; SBT-20 in Little Creek, VA, and SBT-22 in Stennis, MI. SBTs are commanded by a Navy Commander (O-5) who leads Special Warfare Combatant-Craft (SWCC) personnel.

Special Boat Teams 12, 20, and 22 all were established merged from various SBU units. NSWG-4 is tasked with organizing, equipping, and training established SWCC crews to assign combatant craft to the restructured Special Boat Teams to support Naval Special Warfare.

A number of SBT-12 and SBT-20 detachments are certified for maritime craft aerial delivery system (MCADS) operations. MCADS employs special platforms and parachutes to enable compatible boats to be paradropped onto water from C130, C17 and C5 aircraft.
