Ignition Interlock In June 2007, The Prevention of Underage Drinking and Access to Alcohol Act was signed into law. This law set the parameters for developing the Ignition Interlock Device (IID) Program requiring the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Service (SCDPPPS) to administer the program.

A “BAIID” is a device designed to prevent a motor vehicle from starting when the driver has consumed alcoholic beverages. The IIDP Administrator will manage the IID Program and an Ignition Interlock Device Point System that imposes penalties on drivers participating in the Program. PROCEDURE General Provisions

Points will be assessed against drivers for rule The Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device (BAIID) prevents a vehicle from starting if it detects a breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) over a preset limit. In South Carolina, if the driver’s BrAC is at or above .020%, the vehicle will not start.

Manufacturers of ignition interlock devices shall apply to the Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services for certification of devices provided to South Carolina drivers who are subject to the ignition interlock restriction.
