The EMD SD7 is a model of 6-axle diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between May 1951 and November 1953. It had an EMD 567B 16- cylinder engine producing 1,500 horsepower (1.12 MW) for its six traction motors.

A single locomotive could haul a 5,500-ton train on level track, climb grades as high as 5%, and negotiate curves of 23 degrees. The SD7 also featured another unique trait, EMD's own Flexicoil truck.

Utilizing a 1,500 hp engine and a longer underframe than the GP-7, the SD-7 was the first locomotive to use EMD's Flexicoil truck. Built by EMD between 1954 and 1959, the SD-9 6-axle road switchers produced 1,750 HP and were used primarily for freight service throughout the US, both on main and secondary lines.
