The Tanzania Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is a railway system under construction and partially in operation, serving Tanzania and linking it to the neighbouring countries of Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi, and through these to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as part of the East African Railway Master Plan.

The Kenya Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is a partially finished railway system connecting Kenya's cities. Once completed, it will link the country to the neighboring country of Uganda, and through Uganda, to South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi.

2024年11月22日 · The planned SGR extension will run from Naivasha to Malaba passing through Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Nyamira and Kisumu counties. The extension project is viewed as a game-changer for the agricultural, trade, tourism, and transport sectors in the affected regions.

A 40ft container costs US$ 3500 from Mombasa to Kampala by road compared to USD 1,500 by rail when the standard gauge railway is ready and will only take one day. A similar container on the Peking (Beijing) - Shanghai line would cost US$1,500 for transport. That is why we are working for the standard gauge railway.

In Uganda, the SGR network will comprise four routes of total route length 1,724 KM (approximate, length subject to change due to design modifications and sidings or branch lines). Developing the Tororo-Kampala (Eastern) and Tororo -Amuru-Packwach (Northern) routes.

2024年12月3日 · The planned SGR network in Uganda is approximately 1,700Km and is being developed in a phased manner starting with the Malaba – Kampala (272KM). Other routes include, the Western route to inter connect with Rwanda and DR Congo and the Northern Route to connect with South Sudan and DR Congo.
