SMS Bayern [a] was the lead ship of the Bayern class of dreadnought battleships in the German Kaiserliche Marine (Imperial Navy). The vessel was launched in February 1915 and entered service in July 1916, too late to take part in the Battle of Jutland .

2022年2月17日 · SMS Bayern emerged from Howaldtswerke, Kiel after fitting-out to be commissioned on 18 March 1916, so weeks before the Battle of Jutland. Her total cost has been 49 million Goldmarks, among the highest of any German ship ever.

Taking the general plan and all-centerline gun layout of the König-class, the Bayern-class was approved for construction in 1913. Mounting eight of the new 380m guns in four turrets, all on the centerline in superimposed dual mounts, with two slim funnels and tall masts, they were beautifully balanced ships with great maneuverability.

Bei S.M.S. Bayern handelte es sich um ein Großlinienschiff und Typschiff der 4 Schiffe umfassen­den Bayern-Klasse, von der allerdings nur noch die Bayern und die Baden fertiggestellt wurden. Der Stapellauf erfolgte 18.02.1915 bei den Howaldtswerken in Kiel, die Indienst-stellung folgte am 18.03.1916.

Das Großlinienschiff SMS Bayern war das 1. Schiff der Bayern-Klasse und zählte neben dem Schwesterschiff SMS Baden zu den letzten beiden noch gebauten Großlinienschiffen und gleichzeitig zu den modernsten Kriegsschiffen der kaiserlichen Marine.

The large-scale ship SMS Bayern was the first ship in the Bayern class and, in addition to its sister ship SMS Baden, was one of the last two large-scale ships still built and at the same time one of the most modern warships of the imperial navy.
